Price Tracker update for the weekend – Nov 2nd & 3rd

Today, if you are a CVS Extra Care member, there is a $5 off $30 coupon in your email. You can click on the link in the email and have it sent directly to your Extra Care card or you can print it out. The coupon is good through the end of the weekend. I had mine sent directly to the card so that I have one less piece of paper to keep track of! If you are not an Extra Care member, the next time you are at CVS, ask at the cashier counter or customer service for an Extra Care card and sign up before you check out. This is one of those programs where the rewards ARE worth it.

Based on the Personal Care items from the list for our stockpile, I have found these deals available through the weekend:

FOOD LION – prices good through Wednesday. For Food Lion special prices, you have to be enrolled in their MVP program and present the card at checkout.

  • Charmin bath tissue 12 big rolls or 16 Basic Charmin rolls $5.99
  • Bounty paper towels 6 big rolls $5.99
  • Puffs facial tissues 56 ct $1.29
  • Old Spice, Secret, Gillette deodorants $3.99
  • Scope Mouthwash – $3.99
  • Ivory bar soap 4-pack $2.79

  • Bic disposable razors 3-6 count $5.99
  • Colgate toothpaste 4-6 oz $3.00
  • Tone body wash 18 oz $3.99
  • Alcon contact lens solution $4.99

ALDI’s – Prices change on Sunday. Aldi’s only accepts cash and debit cards.

  • No personal care items listed in their sales flyer this week. Regular prices apply.

PUBLIX – Prices change on Wednesday. You do not need any club card for Publix. Publix doubles coupons up to 50 cents and accepts competitors coupons from Food Lion, Bi-Lo and Ingles.

  • Suave naturals shampoo and conditioner 22.5oz bottle $1.25
  • Scott bath tissue mega rolls 4-pack $2.50
  • Publix print paper towels 1-roll $0.99
  • Pantene shampoo or conditioner 5.1 to 12.6 oz $3.99

  • Cottonelle toilet paper 12 roll $6.49
  • Puffs facial tissue 56 count $1.00
  • Sparkle paper towels 2 roll pkg $2.50

Already a few things should be jumping out at you. A head to head comparision of just these stores shows the price on Puffs is less at Publix than Food Lion. If you are keeping your Price Trackers, you will also see that the UNIT size really matters here. Whether a toilet paper package is a 4, 6, or 12 count will make a huge difference in what you are spending per roll. Also, if you are couponing, you can see where some great deals are already happening. There are Suave coupons good right now, Bounty, Puffs, and many others. The prices I am listing are BEFORE coupons, so take the prices and factor in the coupons you have to reduce some of the prices further.

WALGREENS – Prices change on Sunday. You need a Walgreen’s Balance Rewards card to get the special prices.

  • Dove, Degree, Axe, and Suave personal care all 25% off
  • Angel Soft bath tissue 9 rolls $4.00
  • Walgreens brand paper towels 8 count $3.99
  • Walgreens brand toilet paper 12 count $3.99
  • Viva paper towels 6 count $5.99
  • Tampax, Always, Pantene, Old Spice, Olay, Secret, Crest, Oral-B and Gillette products – buy one, get one 50% off regular price. You do need to buy 2 to get the discount. That works out to 25% off each one when tracking, before coupons.
  • Pantene Expert Collection shampoo or conditioner 8.4 oz or 10.1 oz $8.99
  • Nivea body wash 16.9 oz buy 1 get 1 free, you do need to buy 2 to get the discount, that works out to 50% off before coupons.
  • Olay 2-pack bar soap $3.33
  • Olay body wash 10 oz or 12 oz $3.33
  • Olay skin lotion 8.4 oz. $3.33
  • Gillette Fusion Pro-Glide razor $9.99
  • Vaseline body lotion 20.3 oz $4.99
  • Mennen Speed stick or Lady Speed Stick buy one get one free
  • Dial 8 pack bar soap buy 1 get 1 free
  • Dial body wash 6.8 to 18 oz buy one get one free
  • Colgate Optic White toothpaste 5.5 oz buy 1 get 1 50% off
  • Colgate mouthwash 16 oz buy 1 get 1 50% off

  • Carefree pantiliners 92 or 120 count buy 1 get 1 50% off
  • OB tampons 40 count buy 1 get 1 50% off
  • Dove or Degree deodorant, Clinical 1.7 oz, twin packs 2.6 or 2.7 oz $6.99
  • Yardley bar soap $0.79 each WITH coupon in the Walgreen’s flyer (found in the store) limit 3
  • Kleenex facial tissue 50, 75, 90 or 184 sheets, buy 1 get 1 free

  • Finest Nutrition vitamins buy 1 get 1 50% off
  • Crest toothpaste 5.8 to 6.2 oz $2.99
  • Scope Outlast mouthwash 25.4 oz $2.99

If you are tracking on your worksheets, the low price changes again for bath tissue and paper towels (not considering coupons). If you are not using coupons, I’d recommend get the Walgreens brand toilet paper and paper towels. The other items are all over the place, especially since Walgreens does not post prices when they are just saying “buy 1 get 1”, so you have to figure from regular prices. My general rule is I do not purchase unless it is 50% off (buy 1 get 1 free) and then I compare from there, and match coupons if I have them.

TARGET – prices change on Sunday. Target accepts their coupon plus manufacturer’s coupons, but does not double the value of any coupon.

DOLLAR TREE

  • No special note in their current flyer but their store brand paper towels and 4-pack toilet paper are $1.00 each

RITE AID – prices change on Sunday. They have a rewards card that will get you a percentage off of regular prices, and you need the rewards card to get the sale prices or any rewards money back. The rewards money back will be loaded on your card to use the next trip, and must be used within 2 weeks. Using rewards to make your next purchase is called “rolling”, and I can discuss that in greater detail another time.

This week, the items to stock up on are PAPER TOWELS, TOILET PAPER, AND TISSUES. If you’ve been filling out your price tracker sheets, you will see a few things jump out at you. Should you have a critical need for any other items, track those prices and shop where you get the best deal. Please note that when listing the prices, I did not include coupon matchups, as not everyone collects coupons. If you are just starting and do not have a coupon stockpile yet, you can see you can still save about 50%. If you have coupons, use the coupon rules I listed by store and figure in your coupons to get the best price.

NOTE: About paper towels and toilet paper – how do you tell the difference between a “mega roll”, “double roll”, “xtra roll”, “super roll”, and so on and so on? The objective way to check is first if it is one-ply or two ply (for toilet paper), and check the total square footage for the entire package. Four double rolls may not have any more square footage than two mega rolls, or vice versa. The only absolute measure is the total square footage. For example, the Dollar Tree store brand paper towels are 61 square feet per roll for $1.00, while the Office Depot store brand paper towels are 114 square feet for $0.74. On your price tracker, it might help if you used “Square Feet” as the units for these types of items.
